The Powerheart G3 Discontinuation: Official Update
In May 2020, ZOLL Medical Corporation announced it would stop producing the Powerheart G3 (9300x), G3 Plus (9390x), and G3 PRO (9300P). Production ended in March 2021. ZOLL committed to supporting these devices for seven years from the date of manufacture, meaning all support officially ends on March 31, 2028.
Until that date, ZOLL has confirmed availability of two clinical accessories: replacement electrode pads and battery packs. Non-clinical accessories, including carry cases and select accessories, have limited availability due to supply constraints.

What This Means for Powerheart G3 Owners
Owning a Powerheart G3 today means you're working with equipment that is no longer in production and will eventually lose manufacturer support entirely. Here is what that looks like in practical terms:
- No new Powerheart G3 units are available for purchase.
- Replacement pads and batteries remain available until March 31, 2028, provided supply constraints allow.
- After March 31, 2028, ZOLL will no longer provide service, technical support, or accessories for any Powerheart G3 model.
- AED industry best practice recommends replacing devices approximately every 10 years to ensure you're working with current technology, software, and guidelines.
Your Powerheart G3 may still be functional today. But the window for supported, reliable operation is narrowing.
Why It's Worth Acting Sooner Rather Than Later
There are two things worth doing before 2028: keeping your G3 stocked while it's still supported, and planning your eventual upgrade. Here's why acting on both sooner rather than later works in your favour.
- Stock up on accessories while you can. Replacement pads and batteries are available now, but ZOLL has confirmed supply only "at a minimum" for the warranty duration, and non-clinical accessories are already constrained. Ordering ahead means you won't be caught short.
- Readiness matters year-round. Whether you're restocking accessories or planning an upgrade, the goal is the same: an AED that's ready when it's needed. Staying ahead of the 2028 deadline keeps you there.
- Start planning your upgrade on your own timeline. AED Advantage offers a trade-in program that lets you earn credit toward a newer model. Getting ahead of the 2028 deadline means less pressure, more flexibility, and the chance to make a considered decision rather than a rushed one.
- Find a suitable replacement. Depending on your organization's needs, the Powerheart G5, LIFEPAK CR2, and Philips HeartStart OnSite all offer reliable, current-generation technology and manufacturer support. The right choice depends on factors such as your environment, responder experience, budget, and program requirements. Our team is here to help you make the best decision.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can't I just keep using my Powerheart G3?
Yes, your device will continue to function until March 31, 2028, as long as pads and batteries are within their expiry dates and the unit is in good working order. After that date, ZOLL will no longer provide service, accessories, or technical support. Operating with an unsupported AED beyond its end-of-life date may create liability concerns for your organization. We recommend upgrading before the deadline.
What happens to my Powerheart G3 after March 31, 2028?
After March 31, 2028, ZOLL will end all support for the Powerheart G3, G3 Plus, and G3 PRO. That includes service, technical support, and accessories. You will no longer be able to source replacement pads or batteries through authorized channels. Your organization's emergency preparedness depends on a fully supported, functional AED, which is why upgrading before this date is important.
How much does the trade-in program save me?
Trade-in savings vary based on your current device and the model you're upgrading to. Visit our trade-in page or contact our team for a personalized quote. We'll work with you to maximize your value and minimize the cost of upgrading.
What is the difference between the Powerheart G3 and the Powerheart G5?
The Powerheart G5 is the next generation of ZOLL's Powerheart line. Key upgrades include real-time CPR feedback through Intellisense™ CPR (ICPR) technology, user-paced rescue guidance with RescueCoach® prompts, dual-language capabilities, and comprehensive self-testing to ensure the device is always rescue-ready. Along with the LIFEPAK CR2 and Philips HeartStart OnSite, the Powerheart G5 is one of several AEDs that can help organizations maintain a fully supported program. Our team can help you determine which option best fits your needs.
How long is a Powerheart G3 good for?
The Powerheart G3 carries a seven-year warranty from the date of manufacture. ZOLL will continue supporting devices within that warranty period until the end-of-support date of March 31, 2028. AED industry guidance generally recommends replacing devices approximately every 10 years to keep pace with advances in technology, software, and resuscitation guidelines.
