Why Inspect AEDs?

  • Ensure Readiness: Regular inspections confirm your AED is operational and ready to deliver life-saving treatment during a cardiac emergency. Prevent Malfunctions: Routine checks help identify potential issues before they compromise your AED's performance when seconds count.
  • Comply with Regulations: Many jurisdictions require documented AED inspections to meet workplace safety standards and liability requirements.
  • Expiration Dates: Batteries and electrode pads must be replaced before their expiry dates to ensure reliable performance, check our replacement parts to keep your AED ready.

What to Check During an Inspection:

  • AED Status Indicator: Verify your device's readiness indicator (green checkmark, flashing light, or other status signal) confirms the AED has passed its automatic self-tests. Readiness indicators vary by model, check our product pages for your specific AED's indicator type.
  • Battery Status: Check battery expiration dates and charge levels to ensure adequate power for emergency use.
  • Pads and Accessories: Inspect electrode pads for damage, proper sealing, and expiration dates. If your device requires accessories, such as separate pediatric pads, make sure they’re present.
  • Physical Condition: Examine the AED exterior for cracks, damage, or signs of tampering that could affect device reliability.
  • Cabinet and Accessories: Ensure your AED cabinet is properly secured but easily accessible for emergencies, and verify all emergency accessories like scissors, razor, towels, or CPR masks are present and in good condition.

Frequency of Inspections:

  • Most AEDs require monthly visual inspections, though some high-risk environments may benefit from more frequent checks. Your organisation's policies and local regulations may also influence inspection schedules.
